I’ll Have Another will attempt to become Americas’s twelfth Triple Crown winner next month.

The winner of the Kentucky Derby followed up in the Preakness Stakes at Pimlico on Saturday, chased home once again by the favourite Bodemeister.

Bodemeister will not be in opposition next time with Bob Baffert declaring that his colt was off the Triple Crown trail but Doug O’Neill’s charge was vanned to Belmont Park from Pimlico on Sunday morning.

I’ll Have Another, who will seek to become the first Triple Crown winner since Affirmed in 1978, is likely to face several battle-hardened and fresh horses in the mile and a half Belmont Stakes on June 9, including Breeders’ Cup Juvenile runner-up Union Rags.

Same Path

“We’re pretty much following the same path that we took after the Derby,” said Dennis O’Neill, who purchased I’ll Have Another for just $35,000 in April of 2011.

“We shipped early to Baltimore (Pimlico) and we’ve done the same thing now going into New York. Doug just thinks it’s best to get him where he needs to be and to let him acclimate there.

“This horse is amazing. So far, he’s handled everything that’s been thrown at him and he seems to be thriving on it.”
