Camelot is 3/1 with Ladbrokes to emulate Nijinsky and win this season’s Triple Crown after justifying short odds with his win in the QIPCO 2000 Guineas at Newmarket.

The Ballydoyle-trained colt got up in the closing stages to beat French Fifteen and he has been cut to 5/4 (from 2/1) for the Investec Derby next month at Epsom.

David Williams of Ladbrokes said: “Camelot’s 2000 Guineas win has lit the Flat season fuse and we now have another star to celebrate as we head deeper into summer.

“We were more than happy to see him justify his short odds and the result was absolutely fine.”

BetVictor make Camelot their 4/5 favourite (from 2/1) for the Investec Derby and there spokesman Charlie McCann said: “Unbeaten Camelot showed his class at HQ and we think he’ll improve again for the step up to the Derby distance.

“The Derby trials begin this week at Chester but we believe we have just witnessed the best trial for Epsom.”

Sky Bet are even money for Epsom and Michael Shinners observed: “We were very impressed with Camelot’s performance as he was given plenty to do and showed enough class to beat his field.

“On better ground and over further he could well improve again and looks the one to beat.”
