Clayton may not have beat much on his racecourse bow, but he can confirm he is on an upward trajectory with victory at Musselburgh.

Kevin Ryan’s charge did not make it to the track as a juvenile but he looked a smart type when he finally made his bow, cantering home by nine lengths on the Southwell all-weather in March.

While the opposition was pretty weak that day, Clayton could do little more than win and he overcome his inexperience to be back on the bridle by halfway to strike without coming out of second gear.

Clayton clocked a reasonable time in the course of that victory and, being by Peintre Celebre, he should be able to handle any ease in the ground in the semichem.co.uk Handicap.

Karaka Jack was not beaten far in better company last time so a slight drop in level can only aid his chance in the Daikin D1 Installer Handicap.

The five-year-old was victorious at Doncaster on his seasonal return on April 1, sticking on strongly over seven furlongs to win by just under a length.

That effort prompted David Nicholls to switch him back up to a mile for Newbury’s Spring Cup and while he again plugged on well for fourth, Karaka Jack never looked like winning the richly-endowed event.

Karaka Jack drops back down to seven furlongs here and, lining up again slightly lesser company, he should have an excellent chance.

Ad Value scored at this track early last month and he can repeat the trick in the Au Revoir Colin Shand Handicap.

A 6lb rise for his one-and-a-half-length victory looks a little steep on the face of it, but Ad Value appeared to have improved over the winter on his reappearance and could still be on the upgrade.

Alan King is continuing to make hay with Ishikawa and is the choice in Wolverhampton’s World Horse Welfare Celebrates 85 Years Handicap.

Kept busy over hurdles during the winter, he made a seamless transfer to the level when winning by nearly four lengths at this track last month.

Although it was not the strongest event, Ishikawa won with a touch in hand and should be up to defying an 8lb hike.

Air Traffic is related to two top-class Pattern performers and while he is some way short of that level, he should be good enough in the Liswerry And Nash Constitutional Club Maiden Stakes at Chepstow.

The four-year-old has had just one run in his life so far, finishing a fine second in the Wood Ditton at Newmarket well over a year ago.

He held a Dante entry at that stage but things obviously did not pan out as planned as he only just returns to action.

Plein Pouvoir can arrest a losing streak that stretches back well over a year in the Royal Oak Hotel Betws Y Coed Handicap Chase at Bangor.

Venetia Williams’ runner has not tasted victory since February 2011 but there was plenty of promise in his recent Huntingdon second and the handicapper has done him a real favour by leaving him on an unchanged mark.

Connections of Barton Stacey will be hoping the Fontwell ground dries up a touch ahead of his outing in the Moscow State Circus Handicap Hurdle.

Winner of one three bumper starts and out of luck in two outings over hurdles, his time is coming.
