Cristoforo Colombo made a winning debut for the Aidan O’Brien stable in the Irish Stallion Farms EBF Maiden at Navan.

Despite being uneasy in the market and the last into the stalls, the son of Henrythenavigator was smartly away in the hands of the trainer’s son, Joseph.

He struck the front a furlong and a half from home, taking a couple of lengths out of the field in a matter of strides.

The 11-4 favourite Scream Blue Murder made inroads in the closing stages but was still a length and a half down at the line behind the 7-2 winner. Secret Recipe stayed on well for third.

“He jumped and travelled well and was quite green in front,” said O’Brien jnr.

“He’s by Henrythenavigator who was a good moving horse and he would appreciate a bit faster ground.”

Tammy O’Brien, representing the owner Mrs John Magnier, added: “He is likely to be part of the Royal Ascot team.”

My Girl Anna just held the late thrust of Luisant to register her second course and distance success in the Handicap.

The 9-2 favourite, trained by Muredach Kelly, was all out to supplement her victory on this track in October.

She had to be driven right out by Rory Cleary and the post came just in time as she got the verdict by a nose.

"She’s always knocking on the door. We decided to change tactics a bit today and held on to her for a while," Cleary said.

"She just held on in the finish but she deserved it."
