Derrinstown Derby Trial Day At Leopardstown, And Longchamp Have The Poule D’essai Des Pouliches, And The Poule D’essai Des Poulains Races. (French Guineas)
Our cousins over the Irish Sea, and over The Channel hold all the aces, which is not unusual on a Sunday. Leopardstown hold their Derrinstown Derby Trial & Family Day, and Longchamp have the Poule D’essai Des Pouliches for Fillies, and the Poule D’essai Des Poulains which are the French versions of The British Guineas.
A nice card from Ireland, and the main races are thus……..
The Derrinstown Stud Derby Trial is open to three-year-old horses, over a distance of 1 mile and 2 furlongs. This was first called the Nijinsky Stakes way back in 1971, and I wish they stuck to it, as it honoured the Irish horse Nijinsky, who won the British Triple Crown in 1970. Sigh!
The clue is in the name as it serves as a trial for both the Epsom Derby and the Irish Derby. A solid race!
Of course it would be wrong to leave out the girls, so they also hold the Derrinstown Stud 1,000 Guineas Trial is open to three-year-old fillies, over a distance of 1 mile.
Now this race serves as a trial for the Irish 1,000 Guineas, but not the British 1000 Guineas…….Why? Because the British version was a couple of weeks ago!
Another race of note is the Amethyst Stakes, which is open to horses aged three years or plus, over a distance of 1 mile. This race used to be held at Phoenix Park, and was transferred to Leopardstown in 1991, after Phoenix closed down.
Over in France, they hold the Poule d’Essai des Poulains, known as the French 2,000 Guineas, which is open to three-year-old colts, over a distance of about a mile. Furner’s Green has O’Briens son on board who will be looking to put in a good run for the Irish in france.
And for the girls, the Poule d’Essai des Pouliches, known as the French 1,000 Guineas, which is over a distance of about a mile. Beauty Parlour holds a good hand here, and will take them all on.
Plumpton hold a Ladies day, which is nice to go to with your mates, but a minefield of lady friendly events, your good-lady-missus/girlfriend will enjoy.
Tommo is there with his blocked up nose, and there are many ‘man-traps’ to avoid – Fashion competitions, an Al Fresco Garden Area, and the dreaded Shopping Village. Sure to see men run for the hills!
Luckily, Plumpton is a nice course, and there are some bars to numb the pain of that ‘shopping village’ and there are some good races too!
Where’s our Mens Day!?!
Worcester hold a pleasant meeting with a Worcestershire Rose competition, where ten beautiful ladies will be be entered into the final. Nice!
Now to the best English meeting……..The Cider Festival at Uttoxeter! All kinds of ciders will be available, such as Stowford Press, Cider House Special, Old Rosie, Bounds Dry!
That’s my kind of meeting, Cider – yes! Shopping – No!
Enjoy the day!
