Roger Charlton

Bishop Roko made a deeply impressive racecourse debut in the Bet On Your Mobile At bluesq.com EBF Maiden Stakes at Newbury.

Roger Charlton‘s juvenile (16-1) was held up towards the far rail by jockey James Doyle, who must have been thrilled by the response once his partner got serious.

Despite having encountered plenty of jousting for position, the already-gelded son of Rock Of Gibraltar effortlessly pulled six lengths clear of 11-4 favourite Mysterious Man.

Sun Central was another two lengths away in third.

Charlton said: "Unfortunately, his owner has gone home already and missed the race as the horse was a little uncomfortable an hour before and we were unsure whether to run.

"He has always been a nice horse and it’s not a shock he has won.

"He has not quite come yet in his coat, which may have put a few people off.

"Although I’m not shocked he has won, I am little shocked in the manner in which he did it – but I did say this morning I thought he would be in the first three."
