Longchamp: Prix Vicomtesse Vigier (Group 2) 1m7½f , 4yo+

IVORY LAND (Alain’de Royer-Dupre/Stephane Pasquier) ran out a brave winner of France’s traditional Gold Cup, finishing half a length ahead of his Prix’de Barbeville conqueror Usuelo.

Afterwards connections were adamant they had no regrets about not having given the winner an entry in the Ascot version.

“It was a lot too soft for him last time but today he had his ground and he gets on very well with his jockey,” said Royer-Dupre.

Owner Eduardo Fierro added: “The horse has to come first. We might think about the Gold Cup in the future, just not his year.”

Usuelo backed up his surprise Group 3 win last time for trainer Jean-Luc Guillochon and Antoien Hamelin, proving his toughness having attempted to make all.

Prairie Star split the pair last time but was one and a half lengths back in third on this occasion, while Joshua Tree stayed on from the back to take fourth for Marco Botti.
