Grey Mirage looks set to bid to give trainer Marco Botti a second successive victory in the German 2000 Guineas later this month.

The Newmarket-based handler saddled former stable star Excelebration to win the Group Two prize last May, and feels he has another contender on his hands.

The three-year-old won his maiden at Kempton in March before sluicing home in a Sandown handicap at the end of last month.

“He’s in good order and went up in the ratings to 89 after his win at Sandown,” said Botti.

“We probably want to step him up in class now and we might track the German Guineas at the end of this month and see how the race shapes up. It would be nice to win that race again.

“This is a progressive three-year-old who is going the right way and he wouldn’t mind a bit of juice in the ground as well.”
