John Gosden was proud of both his fillies after Starscope and The Fugue finished second and fourth behind Homecoming Queen in the QIPCO 1000 Guineas.

He said: “I was thrilled with both my fillies, who will go further in time and will want a longer trip. They’ve run great but, unfortunately, The Fugue has been struck into on her hind leg and I hope she’ll be OK. Starscope has run well and is a nice prospect.”

Jockey Jimmy Fortune said of Starscope: “My filly ran a great race, but we never saw where the winner had gone.”

William Buick said of The Fugue: “I’m very happy with her. She ran really well but it was a rough race in the early stages and the ground was not ideal for her. She will improve in time.”

Lily’s Angel finished seventh and her jockey Paul Hanagan said: “Not many excuses really. She ran really well.”

Johnny Murtagh finished 13th on Lightening Pearl and said: “I fell in behind the winner and she quickened and I didn’t. I didn’t get a much of a feel from her today.”

Trainer Ger Lyons added: “We learnt nothing from that. She carried us well to the six pole but then nothing. If we had gone well to the seven pole we would have learned something.

“You can’t say she didn’t stay – she ran too rank for that. I don’t like the way she was sweating in the paddock before the start. If the Irish Guineas stays dry we will have a go at that.”

Moonstone Magic finished 15th and Jim Crowley said: “She was a little bit disappointing. I was outpaced from the word go and it was a bit rough.

“She is still quite inexperienced but she didn’t really finish her race. I think she is a lot better than that. Maybe stepping up to Group One and the fast pace has caught her out a little bit.”

Lyric Of Light trailed home in 17th and Frankie Dettori said: “The ground was against her.”
