Chester 05.05.2011 An unexpected 21mm of rain overnight Monday into Tuesday led to the ground being described as soft but clerk of the course Andrew Morris changed that after walking the track on Tuesday afternoon.

Morris, who is overseeing his first meeting at Chester, said: “The ground is now soft, good to soft in places.

“We have had a dry day here, it was quite cloudy first thing but the sun has come out this afternoon.

“From the winning post around to the six-furlong start would be the good to soft places.

“The forecast for tomorrow is that we are due to have light rain during racing with a heavier band coming in after. In total it could amount to 5mm.”

The GoingStick reading taken on Tuesday afternoon was 5.9.
