Jockey pleased with Gosden runners

William Buick believes the best is yet to come from the John Gosden’s Classic runners, Fecing, Starscope and The Fugue, following their efforts at Newmarket.

Buick was sixth on Fencing in the Qipco 2000 Guineas and fourth on The Fugue in the 1000 Guineas in which Gosden also saddled the runner-up Starscope.

“I was very happy with Fencing. It was his first run of the year, I was pleased and it was a solid run on ground that wasn’t ideal for him,” he told At The Races.

“He didn’t have a prep run and I think he’ll come on a lot for it and the step up to a mile and a quarter will suit him.”

Buick felt the once-raced The Fugue put up a great effort in what he described as a rough race for the 1000 Guineas.

“Where I was it was a very rough race. We were all on top of each other for a few furlongs and she got struck into as we were so tight,” he said.

“She was inexperienced and she’d only had the one run under her belt. She finished the race very well and hopefully what happened to her is not too bad.

“I was very pleased with her and with Starscope who finished second. There are lots of positives to take out of that.”
