Turner follows Alex Greaves, who rode Portugese Lil in the 1996 running of the race, finishing last of the 20 runners. While Cavaleiro is as big as 100-1 for this season’s renewal, Turner is happy to take her chance.
“I won on him last year then Richard Mullen won on him when I was injured,” she told Racing UK. “He ran in the Lingfield Derby Trial on the all-weather which was probably not ideal and I’m really pleased to get a ride in the race.
“He’s progressing with age and I think is a horse who will suit the course as he’s a strong traveller. He’ll definitely stay.”
Turner was in winning action on Primaeval, one of the leading ante-post fancies for the Royal Hunt Cup, at Goodwood on Wednesday.
