Willies Wonder managed to break his duck after three solid runs in maiden company this season by powering away with the lingfieldpark.co.uk Handicap.

Charlie Hills‘ three-year-old had already finished second a couple of times in 2012 but was no match for the wide-margin winner Intense Pink at Pontefract last week.

Sent off at 7-2 under Hills’ half-brother, Michael, Willies Wonder was never worse than second in this six-furlong affair but ended up pulling two and a quarter lengths clear.

“He’s done it well first time in a handicap,” said Charlie Hills.

“He settled better and quickened up nicely.

“I think he bumped into quite a good filly last time, and also bumped into a good one at Warwick (Flexible Flyer) the time before.”
