Tokyo: Tokyo Yushun (Japanese Derby) (Grade 1) 1m4f, turf, 3yo
THE world’s richest derby has been won by Deep Brillante (Yoshito Yahagi/Yasunari Iwata), who nosed out Fenomeno to take the Tokyo Yushun.
The 15-2 chance was completing a notable double for his sire Deep Impact, the 2005 Triple Crown winner who seven days earlier produced the Japanese Oaks winner Gentildonna.
In a tight finish, third place was taken by Tosen Homareboshi, three-quarters of a length behind the runner-up, with World Ace fourth ahead of Satuski Sho (2,000 Guineas) winner Gold Ship.
Deep Brillante had finished third in the Satsuki Sho before turning the tables in Sunday’s 339 million yen (£2.7m) event.
