La Collina Can Test The Queen
La Collina Can Test The Queen

Homecoming Queen

1pt’e.w. La Collina in 15.40 Curragh at 6/1 (Paddy Power 1/5 1,2,3). Plenty of each-way appeal after encouraging return.

I just don’t know what to make of Homecoming Queen going into Sunday’s Etihad Airways Irish 1000 Guineas. She recorded a very fast time in winning the QIPCO 1000 Guineas at Newmarket, won by nine lengths and it was an unbelievable performance.

She was set alight by Ryan Moore from over two furlongs out and just went further and further away but I just wonder whether she can repeat that level of form on quicker ground here.

She’s an even-money favourite and I’d be inclined to look elsewhere and with eight runners, La Collina, fifth at Newmarket, makes some each-way appeal.

She was having her first run since August that day and was rallying in the closing stages and last season she was a Group One winner at the Curragh, beating a leading colt in Power.

If Homecoming Queen is as good as she looked at Newmarket she’ll win, but watching the video back she isn’t the best of movers and could have been suited by the rain-softened ground there. She may well win again but I’ll go each-way on La Collina.
