Michael Bell has expressed his delight that Wigmore Hall bounced back to somewhere near his best in the Huxley Stakes at Chester.

Having run his usual solid race in Dubai, when fourth to Cityscape in the Dubai Duty Free, he was beaten out of sight by Cirrus Des Aigles in the Prix Ganay but, racing on unfavourable ground at Chester, he only went down by two lengths, giving 7lb and more to the first two home.

Wigmore Hall ran very well with a penalty at Chester,” said Bell.

“He was giving 7lb to the winner on ground he hates and he looked back on song.

“I’m not sure where he’ll go next, but the Prince of Wales’s (Royal Ascot) will come under consideration.”

Complete Mystery

Margot Did’s run in the Palace House Stakes, when last of 16 behind Mayson, has, on the other hand, proved a complete mystery.

“She jumped awkwardly and was never on an even keel,” said Bell.

“All her tests have come back clear so we’re just putting a line through it.

“Sprinters can have off days – one day they can be last and the next day they can win, as we saw at York.”

Allied Powers is set for another trip to France after his win in a Group Three at Longchamp.

“He will go to the Grand Prix’de Chantilly next,” said the Newmarket handler.

“He’s in the best form he’s been in for some time.”
