Henry Candy is set to bypass Royal Ascot with Markab for Salisbury following his veteran’s return to winning ways at Windsor.

The nine-year-old sprinter ended a famine stretching back to the Group One Betfred Sprint Cup in September 2010 when making all the running to take the Listed Leisure Stakes.

Markab is to stick to that level at the Wiltshire venue over six furlongs on June 17 rather than go to Ascot where he holds an entry in the Wokingham Handicap.

“He’s come out of Windsor very well. It was lovely to see him win there,” said Candy.

“He’s going to give Ascot a miss. He’ll go for the Cathedral at Salisbury, a Listed race again.”
