Dubai World Cup winner Monterosso is one of eight entries in the reopened Betfair Brigadier Gerard Stakes at Sandown on Thursday evening.

A surprise victor of the richest race in Dubai, he had only had one race since finishing third in the same contest 12 months earlier.

He was trained by Mark Johnston in his younger days when he won the King Edward VII Stakes at Royal Ascot and is now in the care of Mahmood Al Zarooni.

His Godolphin compatriot Saeed bin Suroor has entered Hunter’s Light.

Carlton House, trained by Sir Michael Stoute and owned by Her Majesty The Queen is due to make his seasonal reappearance.

Not sighted since finishing fourth in the Irish Derby last summer, big things are expected of him this season.

John Gosden has entered Gordon Richards Stakes winner Colombian, however, his stable companion, King George winner Nathaniel, is not among the entries after scoping dirty.

Marcret made a winning debut for Marco Botti in the Huxley Stakes at Chester and will be looking to build on that performance.

Hughie Morrison has entered Royal Ascot winner Sagramor, David Simcock has given I’m A Dreamer the option while Sos Brilliante completes the eight.
