Dubai World Cup hero Monterosso is set to feature among the initial entries for the reopened Betfair Brigadier Gerard Stakes at Sandown on Thursday.

The prestigious Group Two prize is seen as an ideal stepping-stone to some of the summer’s major middle-distance prizes but has this year been reopened after attracting only seven horses.

However, there will be at least one star name when the entries are eventually revealed after Godolphin confirmed on Twitter: “Monterosso & Hunter’s Light among Brigadier Gerard Stakes contenders.”

Other horses who have been mentioned as possible participants include King George winner Nathaniel and the Queen-owned Carlton House.

Henry II

The Mahmood Al Zarooni-trained six-year-old was last seen winning the Dubai Gold Cup at Meydan on World Cup night.

The Betfair Funds The PJA Doctor National Stakes features a number of speedy juveniles, including David Brown’s exciting Newmarket winner New Pearl.

The Listed Betfair Heron Stakes is a possible for the likes of Roger Charlton’s 2000 Guineas disappointment Top Offer and the recently-sidelined Most Improved.

Tales Of Grimm, Fort Bastion and Irish History are other notable entries.
