Trainer Peter Moody expressed fears the brilliant Black Caviar might not handle the draining flight from Australia to England.

The six-year-old mare has only ever competed in her homeland, famously winning 21 consecutive races, but is due to contest the Diamond Jubilee Stakes at Royal Ascot next month.

Quarantine regulations and flight restrictions could reportedly mean Black Caviar is in transit for 30 hours before arriving in Newmarket, where she will be prepared for the Royal meeting.

Moody told The Age: “The travel does worry’me. It is daunting.

“It is certainly exciting, but I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t a little bit tentative, a bit nervous about it all.

“I am confident she has learned to look after herself well and she will cope with the trip but you just never know.

“I suppose we run the risk that she could have run her last race in Australia if she goes over there and something goes pear-shaped or she doesn’t cope with it.

“That would be very disappointing and sad for’me and probably Australian racing in general, but let’s hope that is not the case.”
