Moonstone Magic

Moonstone Magic is to be given a break after a valid excuse came to light for her below-par run in the QIPCO 1000 Guineas at Newmarket last Sunday.

Ralph Beckett‘s three-year-old was supplemented for the Classic after winning her first two races, a maiden at Leicester and the Dubai Duty Free Stakes at Newbury.

However after being sent off a 13-2 chance, she beat only two home behind Homecoming Queen.

Connections feel her problems began with the delayed start following the horrific incident at the stalls involving Gray Pearl.

Beckett told At The Races: “She has the temperament of an old sheep, she’s a very laidback filly and Jim (Crowley) was struggling to keep her awake behind the stalls, she was trying to pick grass and was completely switched off.

“Then she got a bump early on and Jim could never get her back into the race. He didn’t’ feel she was taking him along before the bump anyway so that was probably irrelevant but afterwards she scoped clean but the following day we took a trachea wash off her and it was dirty. She was clinically below-par and as a result we’ve had to back off her.

“Three runs in three weeks probably did for her and while the Coronation Stakes is a possibility, she does need dig in the ground.”
