Jadanna produced an impressive performance to make it two wins from as many starts and book her ticket to Ascot with victory in the Hilary Needler Trophy at Beverley.

The James Given-trained youngster was smartly away from her draw in stall nine, although not quite as sharp from the blocks as Our Diane, who quickly blazed a trail from her position widest of all.

Given’s filly was soon in the front rank, however, and took an advantage two furlongs out.

Blue Clumber ran a huge race to give chase, while Threes Grand finished as well as anything, but Jadanna (7-1) had enough in hand to see it out.

A length was the winning margin over 100-1 outsider Blue Clumber for the daughter of Mujadil, who also won on her debut at Pontefract in April.

Given said: “We would have gone to York with her but she suffered a little bit of a setback.

“I still thought she was a little on the burly side in the paddock, so she should strip a lot fitter next time.

“When you win a maiden like that (at Pontefract) we immediately thought about Ascot.

“She won in spite of the heavy ground at Pontefract, and she probably won in spite of the ground here, which was probably a bit too fast for her.

“Providing she comes out of his OK, you’d have to think about the Queen Mary.”
