Elaine Burke is looking forward to seeing Wayne Rooney’s as-yet-unnamed new purchase in action fairly shortly.

The Manchester United and England footballer has bought a majority share in a Dutch Art two-year-old with his former teammate and fellow racing enthusiast John O’Shea

Rooney and his wife, Coleen, haven’t made the greatest start to ownership with Cheshire trainer Tom Dascombe as their first runner, Pippy, finished last on his debut at Chester and their second, Tomway, has not done much better.

This colt was bought by Burke’s husband and former trainer, Karl.

Elaine Burke said: “He’s going to be named very soon – there have been a few names put forward and we’re looking at them at the moment.

“He’ll be ready to run soon and he’s a nice horse.

“You’d think he’d win races watching him work, but you never know with babies.

“It’s exciting to have the owners in the yard and it’s thanks to the new pupil assistant, Julian Williams, for bringing them in.”
