Abtaal could try to get his career back on track in the Prix Daphnis at Longchamp on June 30.

The Jean-Claude Rouget-trained colt had returned to full fitness after sustaining a slight injury when finishing eighth behind Camelot in the Qipco 2000 Guineas at Newmarket.

He had made a pleasing seasonal debut when a neck second to French Fifteen in the Prix Djebel at Maisons-Laffitte in April; the winner went on to take the runner-up spot in the Newmarket Classic.

The son of Rock Hard Ten holds an entry in the’St James’s Palace Stakes at Royal Ascot later this month but is unlikely to take up that option.

“I think he’s all right now. Jean-Claude said he just wrenched a joint a little and he had to give him a bit of a break,” said Angus Gold, racing manager to owner Sheikh Hamdan Al Maktoum.

“He is aiming him at the Prix Daphnis at the end of June over a mile and a furlong.”
