Dawn Approach has been confirmed by Jim Bolger as an intended starter in the Coventry Stakes at Royal Ascot on Tuesday.

The unbeaten son of Bolger’s Classic hero New Approach has a perfect record from three outings, and was last seen winning a Listed race at Naas from the Richard Hannon-trained Mister Marc.

The seven-furlong Chesham Stakes had also been mentioned as a possibility, but Bolger will go for the six-furlong Coventry on the opening afternoon.

He told At The Races: “He runs in the Coventry. Move To Strike runs in the Chesham, and there’s a possibility Leitir Mor may run in the Coventry as well.

“He (Dawn Approach) ran a very good race (at Naas), they went five-furlong pace all the way and he got home very well. He ate up the next day and the amazing thing about it was he was a kilo heavier the day after the race than he was before it. He’s obviously a very tough, hardy horse and he doesn’t back off the feed pot.

“He could be very good – I haven’t had many that are better than him. It wouldn’t matter to him whether it was five, six or seven furlongs or a mile, it wouldn’t make any difference.

“I’d be confident he’ll run well and if anything there is better than him then good luck to them.”
