Mary’s Daughter stunned punters with a 50-1 shock success in the opening British Stallion Studs Supporting British Racing EBF Maiden Fillies’ Stakes at Leicester.

The Richard Fahey-trained juvenile stepped up considerably on her debut sixth at Ripon 16 days earlier to run out an easy winner.

She showed a tidy turn of foot for jockey David Nolan to lead just inside the final furlong and quickly pull away to score by two and a three-quarter lengths.

Flirtinaskirt, a 20-1 chance, was second with Ighraa half a length away third.

Mark Johnston’s Steer By The Stars was the disappointing 11-8 favourite.

Fahey said of the winner: “She was very disappointing first time, we thought she would run better.

“I know the price was big, but it’s not a big shock.

“I honestly don’t know what happened first time. She was never going to win at Ripon. Ripon can do that to horses sometimes.

“She had been shaping OK at home before then and we we were on a fact-finding mission today.

“If she hadn’t have run badly at Ripon we were thinking of the Queen Mary for her. We’ll see how she is when she gets home.”
