Workforce beats Poet in Brigadier Gerard “He’s trained well coming into the race, I’m very happy with him and I just hope the forecast rain appears,” said Cox on Sunday, with officials anticipating up to 40mm of rain in the preceding 24 hours.

He added: “The conditions should be ideal if the rain arrives and I’m happy that he comes over in good form.”

Meandre burst a few reputations when landing the Grand Prix‘de Paris last season and was also the first three-year-old colt home in the Arc in sixth.

A comeback fourth on soft ground in the Qatar Bloodstock Jockey Club Stakes was no more than satisfactory but, if the rain stays away he looks a class above the rest of the field without the hindrance of a Group 1 penalty.

Should the favourite fail to deliver, No Risk At All (Jean-Paul Gallorini/Ioritz Mendizabal) is developing into an extremely able performer just below the top level.

Having been beaten a neck by Zinabaa in the Group 2 Prix du Muguet, the lightly raced five-year-old was then far from disgraced when fourth behind Golden Lilac in the Prix’d'Ispahan.
