Great Heavens looked a filly with the scope to improve up the Pattern-race ladder as she gained valuable black type with a fluent two and a quarter lengths triumph over Miss Cato in the Lord Weinstock Memorial Stakes at Newbury.

The daughter of Magnificent Style, who is also the dam of the same connections smart Nathaniel, seemed to relish making a print in the ground and was made plenty of use of by William Buick with her stamina assured.

John Gosden's charge was momentarily threatened by the improving Miss Cato, but quickly settled the issue when Buick asked her to go on again.

It was a further two and a half lengths back to Albamara in the ten furlong Listed contest registered as the Ballymacoll Stud Stakes.

Gosden said he would step the winner up into a Group Three next, saying: "She's a sweet filly who showed some promise last year. I've spaced her races out and this was an attractive race to run her in.

"We'll look to move straight into a Group Three, as she doesn't have many miles on the clock."
