The promising Tales Of Grimm is on course to tackle a Group race at Royal Ascot following an encouraging first run of the season at Sandown.

The Sir Michael Stoute-trained colt was third to Cogito in the Listed Heron Stakes on just his second career start.

The Group Three Tercentenary Stakes over 10 furlongs and the Group One’St James’s Palace stakes over a mile are the two races connections have in mind.

“It was a good performance at Sandown and he’ll probably go to Royal Ascot. We’re not sure which race yet,” said Barry Simpson, racing manager to owner Sir Robert Ogden.

“He’ll be in a couple of races. He doesn’t qualify for handicaps as he’s only had the two runs.

“He’ll be in the race that used to be the Hampton Court, the Tercentenary. That’s one possibility and he’s still in the’St James’s Palace.

“He’s promising and hopefully he’ll run well next time.”

Tercentenary

The owner has another Tercentenary possible in Thomas Chippendale, who bids to book his place at Royal Ascot when he runs in a 10-furlong handicap at Newmarket on Friday.

The Sir Henry Cecil-trained colt is reported to have benefited for his reappearance behind Expense Claim at Newbury last month.

“He’s come on for his run last time. It was a good introduction,” said Simpson.

“He ran a fair race and I think he’ll run a lot better tomorrow. I’d like to think he could win and go on to Ascot.

“He’ll have an entry in a handicap there and he’s a possible for the old Hampton Court race as well.

“It’s just a matter of seeing how these horses progress. Ascot’s only a couple of weeks away.”
