PICTURE: Virtually indistinguishable from the Brazilian original from which it takes its name, Roy The Redeemer stands proudly above the white cliffs of Dover and fixes his high-density fibreboard eyes on the enemy coast 16 miles across the Channel.
This is the latest publicity stunt from Irish bookies Paddy Power, who claim to have installed the 100ft structure, modelled on Rio’de Janeiro’s famous Christ the Redeemer, in response to English fears their national team need “divine intervention” as they prepare to open their Euro 2012 campaign against Les Bleus on Monday.
