Saddler’s Rock out to cement Gold Cup claims

Saddlers Rock Trained by John Oxx for Michael O’Flynn, Saddler’s Rock is a general 6-1 chance for the Gold Cup and faces seven rivals in the Saval Beg.

Among them are smart hurdlers Steps To Freedom and Unaccompanied, while Joseph O’Brien will have his first ride for Mark Johnston, who saddles Eternal Heart.

As expected Gold Cup favourite Fame And Glory, who won the Saval Beg last year before going on to score at Royal Ascot, was not declared.

He landed a Listed race at Navan last month and trainer Aidan O’Brien said: “Fame And Glory came out of the Navan race well and is in good form, but unlike last year the Leopardstown race comes a bit close to Ascot.”
