David Lanigan is to let the dust settle before making any plans for Main Sequence following his tremendous effort behind Camelot in the Investec Derby.

Races such as the King Edward VII Stakes at Royal Ascot and the Irish Derby, both in the next month, have been mooted as possible targets for the runner-up in the Epsom Classic.

However, Lanigan is in no rush to map out a programme for the rest of the campaign for his stable star, owned by the Niarchos family, although some of the top races over mile and a quarter and a mile and a half will feature in his agenda.

“He’s come out of the race in good order. He ate up last night and has had a lead out this morning,” said the Upper Lambourn trainer.

“We were delighted with his run. You always want to win but we came up against a very good one.

“Hopefully ours is a nice horse to look forward to for the rest of this year and next year.

“We’ll let things settle over the next few days and see where we go and what we do.

“We’ll just see what the horse tells us, but some of the races talked about might come a bit quick.

“I think a mile and a quarter, a mile and a half is fine. I don’t think he’d be going any further than a mile and a half.

“Some experts said he wouldn’t get a mile and a half, so it would be stretching it a bit for him to get a mile and six.

“He’s done nothing wrong and to have a horse that’s won four in a row and then finished second in the Derby is great for the whole team.”
