The City of Perth Gold Cup Handicap Chase.

Today we have a quiet-er day, as there are only two British meetings, both over the jumps, one from Worcester, and one from the Scots, way up there in Perth!

Ireland, who always trump us on a Sunday with a big star-studded set of races, also have a quiet card, with no group races!

So Perth take the best meeting prize today, with a reasonable jump race considering the jump season has finished, and they hold their showcase race – The City of Perth Gold Cup Handicap Chase.

The Perth Gold Cup Handicap Chase is open to horses aged five years plus, over a distance of 3 miles. Even though there has been some English raiders of this race from Gloucestershire in it’s recent history, it’s always wise to keep an eye on some of the more ‘local’ trainers for this race, and when I say local, I mean Scotland! Still, I fancy Hobb’s Fairoak Lad to give a good run in a tricky race.

Supporting races are The Gold Cup Special Novices´ Handicap Chase, Crabbie´s Alcoholic Ginger Beer Handicap Hurdle, and the ETPM 5th Birthday Novices´ Handicap Hurdle (for the Silver Cup)

Worcester hold the second day of their meeting with the Countryside Family Day. This will be a kids based day, which should also include most men as well!

Someone called ‘Rastamouse’ who will be appearing at differing times during the day, along with a new idea to get your children running around like nutters for a while, and then turning grumpy with a headache – unlimited candy floss! A guarenteed suger rush, followed by a headache!

Still, the Union of Country Sports Workers will be there with bassets, terriers, gunsmithing and farriery demonstrations which will be interesting for the Dads!

The Curragh hold a nice card with their Mid Summer Race Day, as the course is getting prepared for the Derby Festival which starts on Friday 29th June, a week after our top meeting – Royal Ascot!

A nice pleasant Sunday!

The Jag.
