Richard Hughes

Richard Hughes has given up his five rides at Newmarket on Friday after his plane failed to take off.

The Marlborough-based jockey was due to fly to Headquarters but did not make the journey due to the adverse weather conditions.

He will still be in action at this evening’s Goodwood meeting, where he has five booked mounts.

Hughes said: “We were monitoring the weather all morning and between 9.30am and 10am the pilot said we’d be good to go.

“Then at about 11.30am he said it was looking a bit dodgy and he said he wouldn’t want to fly. If he doesn’t want to fly I definitely don’t!

“I’ll still be riding at Goodwood as I can make it if I drive.”
