Xanadu overcame a tardy start to win the Prix Paul’De Moussac at Chantilly, edging out Brian Meehan’s Archbishop in the process.

The eventual runner-up looked set to score at the furlong pole as he still held a length advantage under Davy Bonilla but Christophe Soumillon had yet to play his cards aboard Xanadu.

Jean-Claude Rouget’s charge hit top gear soon afterwards to cut down the trailblazer and win with something in hand.

Richard Hannon’s Coupe’De Ville was another to perform with great credit in third.
