Grand National Winners Since 1980

These are all the Grand National Winners since 1980.

Grand NationalEven though the Grand National is only a Grade 3 handicap it is one of the most famous races in the world and even people who don’t bet on other day’s of the year will have a little gamble.

I personally see the race as more of a lottery due to the large field and the fact that over the last few years around half or less of the starting 40 runners have finished the event.

Stray horses and fallers are very common. Very often a horse could fall and take down up to to 3 other runners behind it.

This means that good front runners with course experience and strong stamina, plus a skilful jockey to stay out of the way of any fallers, are likely to reach the finish line.
